Memory Fragmentation

Your mission:

To come up with an audio piece based on this theme.

Try and keep it under 2 minutes and be prepared to offer a basic explanation of your use of the theme.

You must be done by:

12 march 04

The selection of next months theme will beigin a week prior to that date so have an idea ready.

PS- I am not the 'boss'. You have ideas, concerns, or thoughts on this in general feel free to post them. The way this is being done is not set in stone. If you want to participate, but don't have webspace, speak up.

ANYONE IS WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE

Mementofraged

Here's another one from me, although I think we're in the realm of the new months theme aren't we? Anyway in the meantime here's a quick notion of Memory Fragmentation. Plus, can someone let me know if their speakers fuzz while playing this? Only my speakers are now shot to pieces and I was hearing all sorts of noises, and yet the levels were low Cheers Loreman. ...and once again..... WELL DONE SINNER6 Top idea man

Random Memories

Well, my late/lame attempt at getting something out of the theme. Remember, i am a guitar player. Basically just floaty randomness, because that is how i feel memories are "organized", so to say. And i just stumbled over this. I am sorry that the mp3 conversion is so bad... Then again, we all have to live with that. :(

A Lapse in my Memory

Here is my take on Memory fragmentation, its called A lapse in My Memory I didn't quite get to fully develop this one, Perhaps i'll go back later and finish this one. Thanks Sinner6 i enjoyed this one, it was a fun experiment. JSRobots oops, i didn't realize we were to keep this under 2 mins, I could have easily trimmed the fat in this one. I really just found this thread a couple of days ago and thought it sounded fun. I'll be sure to actually read the directions on the box next time. Sorry all.

Oddbods Memory Fragmentation

OK hereís my offering In a dashing display of originality Iíve called it "oddbod's memory fragmentation" I guess it's rather 'conventional' compared to the other entries :)

Untitled Memories

Alright. Here's my submission. Actually the first time I've posted anything online after making music for about 2 years now. It's still pretty raw, but I want to do more with it and can't fit it in the constrains of 2 minutes. As far as the theme goes, Me and my girlfriend of 3 years recently split up and I've been dealing with all that comes with a breakup. Floods of memories and emotions get brought up from the past. So, I guess this track is in response to that. The sliced vocals are actually some recordings I had of her. All of the parts are new, but many of them have some sort of personal significance relating to the relationship. So, I guess it's fragmented memories of a relationship. Soundwise, I just listened to the .mp3 after I uploaded it and I cringed. Something happened in the render. The piano should be a lot quiter and the drums should be a lot louder. I didn't attempt to master this at all. I just added a little compression at the end to bring up the volume. It sounded decent after I rendered it to .wav, but once I turned it into an .mp3 all hell broke loose. But, I think it gives an idea of where the track wants to go. The drums were orginally sequenced in my EM-1 and some of the bleeps and blips in the background came from the Micro Modular. Everything else is software. It all ended up sequenced in Sonar. So, there it is: memory fragmentation. Rob & D'Traveler, I will take a listen to your tracks tonight.

The Mind Astray

Ok guys, mine is up. See the post close to the top of the thread. Thanks again to Sinner6 for hosting!
A bit of background: I chose to approach the theme as "Fragmented Memories," in this case, those of a very strange and vivid dream I experienced a few years ago. Many things in a dream are very surreal, and not 'quite right,' according to the usual human senses. I tried to recreate this dream-like atmosphere by throwing the structure and rhythm slightly off kilter in places. And adding a lot of weird noises.
The dream in its entirety is rather vague (appropriately so here), but a couple of "scenes" remain as clear in my memory as if they had just taken place:I'm in the desert, somewhere in the Middle East. I am bedecked in full Lawrence of Arabia garb. I recall a huge convoy of people and animals. There is some great need to undertake this journey. Somehow I become involved in some sort of weird race on camelback, the details are vague. At least, it seemed like a race, as there were many of us moving quickly ahead of the convoy, and it feels like we are competing. Things get ugly. There is some sort of fight. I recall getting the crap knocked out of me by a human wall with arms like tree trunks. Next thing I know, I'm in a huge tent, drinking some sweet liquor and nursing wounds. Then I awoke.I don't know any of the forms of Arabic, but I'm speaking it fluently in the dream. The words were clear when I awoke, and I tried to write some of them down, but they faded too quickly.
Anyway, the mix is pretty raw, as I wanted to get as much feedback as possible. I am a novice with mixing and mastering.

Memory Fragmentation

Here's my contribution. Good stuff from everyone so far!

badcluster

The previous submissions got me inspired to get working. This is the rough sketch of the idea I have been trying to develop. I will replace it with a final version when I figure out what the hell I am trying to do.

Memory Fragmentation

Okay, thank you Sinner6 for hosting my example, and thankyou Loreman for starting it off so i could at least get an idea what you guys were on about. Memory Fragmentation ala AK.
