All Hallows Eve 2006

Like a rotted hand clawing free from the soft earth, the H-C KSS Monthly Mission reaches skyward again. Members new and old will use thier talents to create an expression of the annual Halloween observance. Any sound or equipment is fair game, and the track length limit is a generous five minutes. As the MM site says, "This is not written in stone so if you need a few seconds wiggle room, do what you need to, but please be considerate about the length of your submission. This project is open to anyone who wants to participate - any skill level or genre is welcome. Have fun and be creative!

October from November

Since this came together a day after the mission would end, I gave it an appropriate title.

This track consists of a sample from my Halloween Micron track, loaded into the Machinedrum UW and twisted in several different ways.  Then it all ran into the Monomachine for fx treatment and overdrive.  Whole thing live in one go.

Stolen Mink (In October)

Nothing more than an extended ditty ... Not terribly Halloweeny, but a good exercise nonetheless.

The most notable thing about the song is that the backbone was performed live and could be duplicated in a live setting ...

Toil and Trouble

It feels like running away from something in the woods on a moonless night.

All the instrument sounds and sound effects came from an E-Mu PK-6 keyboard and Reason 3.0. I composed and (roughly) mixed the track in Cubase SX3.

Spook

well, I took some random loops and keytempo matched them in the VariOS, then I played a pass of live triggering samples on my SP-808ex over it.  A little guitar, some 303ish samples and a couple vocal passes. Then just a sprinkle of SH-101.
Spooky

Virgil Fox gets Abducted by Alien Trick-or-Treaters but Kicks their Ass!

Three minutes of futzing around with cool weird Ion sounds.  Then I got a wild hair and tagged La Follia d'Espagne on each end of it.  Dumb, yeah.  The spectacular pipe organ at the end is my old QS8!

The Last Glimpse Behind

A human being departs to another reality, looking at its physical body for the last time...

Spook

Synth noises mainly from Absynth and Virus, main pad from Virus, with drums from Microtonic and Waldorf XT. A few samples from a sound effects CD and me and my son making silly noises into a microphone!Took a couple of evenings to knock up - most time was spent trying to get him to shout trick or treat, and then trying to get that to fit in right at the end.

apprehension of the anthropophagus

Hallway 13-31, These Walls Talk

Song Description: Not like the current songs I'm working on, but I took this mission as a chance to go back to my roots. This song is dark and haunting but melodic. The 13-31 added into the title comes from today Friday the 13th, the day I finished suitingly, and we are yet to see Halloween until the 31st. Kind of a flip flop. The rest of the title is my description of the song to put you in the mood. Recording process: You don't want to know... First time I recorded VSTs into Logic and it sucked because I didn't know how to do it. Ran into some problems. But I used a combo of various hardware and software synths recorded into Logic and I had a lot of fun doing this song, except the last part I mentioned. Good learning none-the-less. Hope you enjoy.

Your Torquada is Huge

An electronic facelift to an old scary Halloween standard. Played with my Ensoniq VFX from a score (yes, sheet music!) I found in a cool little shop in Europe and recorded with a bunch of Waldorfs into Sonar. I have more gear than talent, I freely admit that!

Scary Groovie

Dinosaurs meet plugins :-) Here you hear in action...a Rhodes, Hammond, ARP Prosoloist and various NativeInstruments plugins...

no light

One take on a Fantom X8 with a bit of resonance and cutoff tweaking. The end result was sampled and reversed to give the sluffing beat.

HolleWeen

... just a quiet soundscape

cannot tell who waits

Just like the season, menacing but somehow beautiful.

Ensoniq EPS -> EHX 16 Second Delay -> EHX H.O.G. -> Digitech RDS 3600 -> TC Electronic M300.

hollowmen

done in one take live.
